Hi! I’m a long time fan (yes, age 68) and think Bobby has been one of the best to ever record.  IF..he is still doing concerts I would love to see him come to our Maritime Provinces in Canada....Moncton, New Brunswick to be more specific...

I was a sophomore in a small high school close to Fargo on February 3, 1959. I know the story well  but I would like to know who else filled in for the artists who died in the plane crash? I think I have black and white photos of the concert but can't identify anyone in the pictures.

Bobbie Vee and the Shadows played their first big dance in the Fargo area that July when the Red River State Fair was on. That dance was in Casselton. I know because my mother was president of the Band Mothers who sponsored the dance. I have the original contract in my scrap book. The place was packed with Fargo kids!

I would appreciate any help in knowing all those who played that Feb. 3 concert.

Thanks,
 Jane Byram

I just wanted to thank Mr. Vee for his music. I still listen to his records and play his recordings on Youtube. It brings me great pleasure and I just wanted to thank him for using the voice God gave him for the benefit of others. It would thrill me if he were to come to the Charlottesville, VA area for a concert.

Thanks for all of the joys you have brought us over the years. The music is fantastic as always. (CD’s are wearing out) We love the video you put together and it brings back a great memories  for Small Town America. Our country was built on small towns and it is a joy to bring it back. In the video it reminds us that Christmas is a time of joy but also remembering  Christ our Lord.
Happy Holliday’s from the Moline Farm and hope to see you soon.

My wife and I would like to wish Bobby a very happy retirement, even though it saddens us to think we may not see him , and his wonderful band again. He has been right up there on the top of our list of favourite ‘sixties’ singers,(along with Elvis, of course!) We went to one of his concerts, here in the U.K, a fair number of years ago. Appearing with Bobby and co. were Johnny Preston, Little Eva, and others . It was at the Civic Theatre, in Darlington, County Durham,U,K., and was probably one of the best nights out we’ve ever had. I have recently bought the cd , ‘Bobby Vee Rarities’, a double cd, full of wonderful songs. So, thanks again, Bobby, for sharing your wonderful songs, with your millions of fans, its been an honour,’Sharing You’, with a ‘Forever Kind Of Love’.

Hi,

I've been a Vee fan since 1961 & have collected every 45, EP, LP, cassette & CD he has ever made! I've also attended many of his wonderful performances over all those years. So I was surprised Bobby finally decided to retire, but was glad to hear he (& sons) were working on a new CD. I'm looking forward for its release & check his site from time to time looking for updates. Do you have any idea when it will be available?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Hopefully the new CD will be available by November. I will update the website as I have more information.

Bob,

I hope this gets to you.  It’s been nearly 40 years when I had you, Brian, Johnny Tillitson, and others booking several dates at a time in the east Georgia/western South Carolina area.  I remember the rehearsals wherever we could arrange to have them.  And one night I took you out to hear a young blind girl name Terri Gibbs sing who later had a country hit called “Somebody’s knocking” (Devil In Blue Jeans) and later won the CMA Newcomer Award.  It sure would be great to get you and some of the other guys back down this way for some dates.  Been talking to Brenda Lee (she started her career here), but she has some concerns at present that really limits how many days she can accept.  Anyway, just was thinking about the old days, and remembered all the good times.  If you ever have the time, give me a call.  Are you handling your own dates now?

Your Friend,
Johnny Hensley

Bob,

It has been great knowing you these past 52 years.  We’ve had our lunches together, and will have many more in the years to come.  I was really sad that I had to pass on your JoeTown Rocks this year, but, don’t plan to miss you next time to plan to perform.  Enjoy retirement my friend, I DO.

Record crowds gathered in St.Joe this year to see Bobby Family and Friends perform their last major concert!  The music was great (as always) and it was fun to see his whole family on stage, including the little ones.

This was our 5th year spent in Minn. at the Joetown Festival. It was somewhat of a "Bittersweet" weekend, knowing that it was Bobby's final major concert appearence before sampling "retirement living". We met up with friends from England, Detroit Lakes,Marshall, and some from LA.

We have been fortunate to be able to follow Bobby and "The Vee,s for the past seven years----and what an experience for us----meeting him and his family. One that we never dreamed of,as we have been fans of his music since high school---some fifty years!!!

We just read the article in "Goldmine" magazine stating that they felt he should be inducted into the "Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Ditto!!!!  Why has it taken so long?  This man has given fifty-two years to the music industry---as a performer, writer, singer and all around great musician !!

This year he and his sons put together a CD of music that had been put to rest in the vaults of Capitol Records years ago---never heard music. Bobby it was awsome!!!  We play those CD's everyday! There are for sure some of those tunes that would have hit the charts back then. Bobby, how sad that you were shorted years ago---Capitol Records what happened?

Also, there is another CD of his that was put together by Bobby and his sons around 2002 I believe called "The Last of the Great Rythum Guitar Players".  Many new sounds from him and the band!  What a wonderful CD---great music--it shows his complete versatility as a musician!  It really deserves some air-tine. Claude Hall can you help us out?  Have you heard this CD?  It's PHENOMENAL!!!!!!  We enjoy good music and its one of our faves.

Well,Bobby --- thanks for all you have done for the music industry---from all the great songs to just taking time for all your fans---we have witnessed this time after time.

Best Wishes to you, Karen and the family ------we will keep listening and "Dancing to the Music"------in hopes that somewhere "Down The Line" we will see you again.  xxxooo

Sincerely,
Hutch and Paula

Hello,

I am just contacting with regard to Bobby Vee sheet music. I am an Australian music theatre performer, and have auditions coming up that some of the Bobby Vee collection will be perfect for.

Is there somewhere I can purchase "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" as piano sheet music?

Thanks so much,

Date: Sun 7/3/2011 4:37 PM

Dear Bobby,

Just read your newspaper article about your retirement, and although we will be sad not to see you on tour in the UK anymore, Mel and I want to wish you and Karen many happy years in your well earned retirement. To be able to enjoy your time with your family and grandchildren, and pursue your hobbies. We will always keep in touch with you and wish you the best of health. Maybe see you sometime for a coffee in your usual haunt. You have brought pleasure to millions of people over the years with your beautiful music, which will last forever.  We were also very sad to read of the passing of our dear friend Johnny. We have such wonderful memories of the many times we have spent with you and Johnny both in the U.S.A. and the UK over your long career.

I was privileged to see you as a 14 year old, on your very first performance on your first Tour of the UK at the Sheffield City Hall. So I guess we have a lot of history together.  We have watched your children grow up and follow in your footsteps and now you will have time to have fun with your grandchildren.

Best Wishes to all the family,

Lots of Love Always,
from your friends in the UK.

Subject: Bobby Vee question
From: Mark Rosen
Date: Sun 7/3/2011 3:19 PM

I'm looking for an answer to a question about a song recorded by Bobby Vee called "Buddy's Song" (a Buddy Holly tribute song). I have heard many accounts as to the name of the songwriter and I was trying to see if I could get to the bottom of the many explanations that have surrounded the song.

The writing credits are usually given to Ella Holley, Buddy Holly's mother. I have also heard that someone else wrote it and just gave her the writing credits.

Are you able to shed any light on this question or able to forward this to someone who might be able to?

Thanks for all.
Mark Rosen

Mark,

"Buddy's Song" has been recorded by Bobby Vee, Fleetwood Mac and others. It was also the the name of a movie staring Roger Daltrey, Chesney Hawkes and Sharon Duce. On the internet I find writting credit given to Ella Holley (Buddy's mother) and even Buddy Holly. According to Bob Celli "Bobby always said it was written by Buddy's mother, and I've never heard otherwise."

Bobby,

Your music is wonderful, but what we as fans appreciate most is you.  Thank you for always being cordial and humble.  For me, no one embodied the Teen Idol / Brill Building sound better than you.  Now that you may have a little more leisure time, how about writing your remembrances and observations of those magnificent few years – from “the day the music died” (which for us BV fans is really the day the music transitioned; it seems you literally were born to take the baton from Buddy) into the English Invasion.  Few, if any, have the breadth and perception you have on this important and sometimes overlooked era.  That would be a great read – and an important contribution.

Freckle-faced Howdy and
Pinky Lee then
Sandra Dee and
Bobby Vee

There was Darin, Rydell, Vinton, and more
Fine “Bobbys,” them all, of that we were sure
But towering high above all the chatter
For us, Mr. Vee was the Bobby that mattered

Frankie had his board
And Annette – you bet!
Fabian snarled to turn him loose
The Bopper felt loose like a long-necked goose
Harmonies of Don and Phil
The Killer’s piano – what a thrill
Lesley said it was Judy’s turn to cry
Then a strange Bob called Gunnn made us all ask why

And just that quick our youth was gone
But there are hopes that linger on

Some nights still have a thousand eyes
And even to this day
The music sends us back with sighs
And brings us true love ways

You sang what we felt; you said what we thought.  As yet another famous “Bob” sang, we now say to you, Bobby, “Thanks for the memories.”  May this be the most fulfilling season of life for you and Karen.

David Shibley
