Hi Bobby and Karen,

I have been a fan of Bobby's since the beginning and I'm sure I have most of his recordings.

It saddens me to hear of Karen's struggles with her health and with Bobby's predicament - I just hope you are both able to live, love, and enjoy life to the full for a long time to come.

My sincerest wishes from the UK.

Dear Bobby & Karen,

I mentioned in my blog post yesterday that I've placed your names on the prayer list from my church, and I wanted to forward a photo to assure you of that fact.

It's my prayer that the two of you are encouraged and comforted by the reality that our Creator hears the prayers of His people.

May the Lord richly bless you . .

"The Caravan of Stars tour wrapped up before Christmas of '63,
 and on December 28th Bobby married Karen Bergen.

 If that weren't change enough - about five
 weeks later The Beatles would arrive
 and everything would change.

 NOW HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS:
 Bobby Vee is 70 today!

Happy Birthday to Birthday Boy.  And I say "boy", because I know you'll always be young at heart.  And your music will always appeal to those who think young.  Am sure you're wondering where those 70 years went, but then when you look at your family, all grown up, you realize that it took those years to produce what now is a wonderful bunch of kids who have already given you grandkids.  It also took all those years to give the rest of us all your fantastic music that will be with us always - and for the folks in years to come.  You can be so proud of those 70 years, Bobby.  Thank you for all the memories.  Enjoy your birthday, with the promise of many more to come.  Love to you on your  special day.  And again, prayers continue to go out to you and Karen, as you deal with life's challenges.
Hugs from Bob and Kathy Caliaro  1
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you.

Hi Bobby & family,

I am fairly new to the computer, but I had been wanting to trace my family tree, so my daughter let me have her old computer I joined an ancestry site, its been amazing! And now by trial error (mostly error) I am finding my way around the internet. The other day I found myself wondering what had happened to my all time favourite Bobby Vee. And so I typed in Bobby Vee on google. and wow, there you were, and all sorts came up, website, you tube, it was so fantastic to see you again. I spent the next few hours singing along to everything. On your latest videos, you look amazing, so great to see you recording Small Town America, At the end of recording you asked if it was good? it was much more than good, it was fantastic, I can't stop singing it, your voice is as superb as ever Bobby! Love the adobe video aswell.

OK, here we go again. I was age 16 when I first went to a Bobby Vee concert, Nov 1962 Manchester England, you were with the Crickets, tried my best to see you after and get your autograph, but no chance! and over the years I never managed to meet you and get your autograph, that is until the early 90's when my daughters took me to see you at the Davenport Theatre in Stockport Cheshire. Your sons were playing with you, it was a brilliant evening, and my girls loved you as much as I do. Afterwards we waited at the theatre side door, I was desperate to try and meet you this time, and suddenly you were there, it was a magical moment Bobby, and I told you I had waited 30 years to meet you. When I looked at my programme you had taken the time to write"To Patricia, 30 years later Bobby Vee. xx" Wow, how brilliant was that, you must have been tired after your show, but you still took the time to chat to me and my daughters and you were very pleased when the girls told you they had enjoyed the show as much as I had done, you were so warm and friendly with us, and one of the girls took a photo, wow, a picture with Bobby Vee, worth the 30 year wait Bobby! The Daily mail had done an article about you a few days previous to us seeing your show, so I sent a letter to the daily mail saying how brilliant the show was, and that I had had a picture taken with you. I was totally shocked when the daily mail rang me and wanted to see the photo. I had to rush out and get it developed as they wanted it quickly, so thats how you got to be top letter that day in the daily mail! I had said in that letter that I hoped you would rock on for ever, and you have, and will continue to do so, I just know you will Bobby! I am so very sorry to read about you and Karen. Life throws so many unexpected challenges at us, You stay strong and know that all your many fans are thinking of you, you have your wonderful music, your painting (I also enjoy painting, I find it so relaxing after the stress of work) And you have that amazing family of yours, you must be so proud of them, they look lovely. Family is everything! Keep us up to date on your website, we will always want to know how you are, because you are a special person Bobby. thank you for the wonderful music and memories. Wishing you the very best from one of your many many fans in England.

Kind regards
Patricia from Cheshire

P.S. Keep on rocking Bobby boy!

To Bobby and his whole family,

I’m thinking of you and wishing you all the best in such trying times. I want to send my gratitude to Bobby, his music and his family who supported him in his career. Your music is such an important part of my life and has been since I first heard Suzie Baby and Devil or Angel. I have to say my favorite song was Run to Him and remember watching your appearance and performance of the song in 1965 on American Bandstand. It’s fantastic to be able to watch it again on Youtube!

I met you, Bobby, in Bismarck in June of 1975. You were playing in a club on the ‘strip’ between Bismarck and Mandan. My brother-in-law and I were there eating dinner and enjoying your music, when you took a break, walked up to us at the table and asked if you could join us. We welcomed you, made room and we all had dinner together that evening. We just chatted, laughed and carried on over dinner like we were all old friends. It was so congenial and natural that we didn’t feel comfortable asking for an autograph—it would have ruined the moment to do so. But I don’t regret it. The memory of that evening is much more important.

With much fondness and admiration I extend to you and your family my heartfelt desire for your family to come through the medical issues for both you and your wife. I’m sure all your fans are sending you love and blessings.

Sincerely,
Gary Lorentzen

As someone born in 1969 I often run into people that don't know who Bobby Vee is, and of course I immediately launch into singing several of his songs.  Bobby Vee is one of my dad's very favorite artists, my house was filled with his music when I was growing up.  Personally, Yesterday and You is one of my all time favorites, however as a musician I've performed Suzie Baby for my dad for his 40th, 50th, and 60th birthdays.  When I was in college in the late 80s I was delighted to run across Bobby's sons performing as The Vees at a bar in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska.  Today I had just posted on my Facebook and Twitter music pages how dismayed I am when  people these days don't know who he is, and I ran across this website.  Reading the biography I was delighted to see his "U.K. Tour '90" cassette referred to as "an anthology of sorts" because I just released an album myself under my performing name Dr Wippit titled, "An Anthology of Sorts".  I guess I will always be connected to Bobby and I will make sure that people will always know who he is!!  Long Live Bobby Vee!!

HI,
I don't join fan clubs at my age, yet I hope you will forward this note to Mr. Vee regarding his music over the years.

At the tender age of 12, I heard on the radio his song, Suzie Baby, and from that day on I was hooked on music. At $2.00 a yard, for the entire sumer I cut grass and saved over $400 dollars. My father took me to Lexington Kentucky were I purchased my first set of Ludwig drums. The parents donated a record player and after purchasing two records by Bobby Vee and A few from Rick Nelson I praticed drums from then on.

For several years following, I played with such groups as the Casinos, The Torques and played several times with Paul Revere and the Raiders. Their drummer at the time was in the Army Reserve and I backed him up when he was on active duty.

I played until 1970 when a visit to Vietnam put a hault to my drumming--right leg was hit with scrapnal and my drum playing was over...so I figured.

A few years ago, and many decades after Vietnam,  I ran into a drummer who had no legs. I figured, if he can do it so can I because I'd only lost part of the control of my right, base drum leg and this fellow had no legs but somehow sounded great. I jumped on the enternet a few days later and purchased another set of older Ludwig drums. Of course, I needed some records to pratice to and as you would expect a lot of Mr. Vee's music was available and I purchased them.

It's been a few years since I started playing again, yet I give credit to Mr. Vee for not only getting me interested in music, but also for my return. This man's insperation has been a God-Send.

I must admit that I don't have the drive I once had do to my loss of youth, but be advised I can stay up with the best of the drummers out there today even though I'm a recent member of AARP.

"Thank you with all my heart," Mr. Vee. "It's been your music over the decades that's put the beat in my arms, legs and heart. Of course, you have my utmost respect!"

My Warmest Regards
Robert C. Goodman JR.

It was totally superb! We could not make the connection to see Bobby in person - but we surely enjoyed the "spirit" he protrayed in his  works of art! Our friends Renee and Wanda,on the other hand, made the Fri. night showing and got to visit with Bobby and family. Better yet--they were our personal shoppers--you did a great job girls!!!!  We acquired the English Cottage print and Cabin In The Woods--also loved the Olde Fishing Boats! We look forward to seeing more Bobby. We made it up on Sat--enjoyed meeting JD and walking thru the gallery--everything was done very tastefully--Great Job!! We hurried on home,after spending a short time visiting with R & D,to see "The Vee's" perform at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake,Ia. It was Christmas At The Lake and they topped the night off with a bus ride down through Rock n' Roll history with David Sommerville -- the concert was a huge success--we heard lots of good vibs from the crowd. Good to see you all again! Looking forward to seeing you at the Buddy Holly weekend in Feb! Still missin' you BOBBY!!!!!  Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Love to you all,

I don’t go searching  goggle as often as many, but today l came across Bobby Vee “health issues’ and was truly saddened by this.  I just ordered his first 4 albums “compiled” in Britain.   I have about 4 other disc downstairs in the music room, including a rarity “2 CD” set.

Anyways, when l was a kid l saw Bobby Vee, Frankie A and Fabian; throw in Chubby Checker and Bobby Rydell...... I loved music when l was a kid, but l had the “fortune” to look like Bobby. I was about 4 years younger than he was, but l knew every word to every song.

I just wanted to contact , hoping he would be informed another fan acknowledges his talents  and pray for his health each day. Thank you truly for good memories l have of years gone by. Perhaps one day we will meet again, in another world.

God Bless you BOBBY VEE , and thank you for making my life just a little brighter.

The gallery was packed and by the time we left, everything was sold out.  Hopefully they will have more tomorrow.   I will be going back to get more Vee art.

The best part was when Bobby walked in the door!  Wow, how we miss him!!!  It was great to see him and all the rest of the Vees.  We were thankful to hear the reports of Karen's progress.

I like the “Night Has A Thousand Eyes:” video also.  The original video was a SCOPITONE from a French company that made a VIDEO Jukebox of the same name in the early to late 60’s.

The wonderful thing today is that you can enjoy that and other Bobby Vee videos (as well as many, many uploads of Bobby Vee songs) on YouTube as well as other web sites, such as MySpace and Facebook

Many of these videos also are available now on DVD from web sites such as SCOPITONES.COM and BEDAZZLED.TV

Hi Bobby and Family,
I was fortunate enough to be on sabbatical in Santa Fe in 2000 when you performed there. Los Alamos was on fire, and you told us you'd considered not coming, because perhaps the folks in our area had [more important things] on their minds than going to a concert. But on second thought, you'd decided a concert might just be the thing we needed. And we did. And you came.

We were so honored to have you there .. it was a night of memories and music. After the concert, many of us stood in line in the lobby area to see you and shake your hand. I'd purchased "Down the Line" and "The Very Best of Bobby Vee--30 Original Classics". You were kind enough to sign both, as I conveyed my experience of your performance: I said "you sounded exactly like you did in the 60s, when I'd listened to and memorized all your hits. You were amazing in that respect, and were so fortunate to be able to work with your family now, and recreate the joy of your music we all had shared in years past."

You just beamed, and reached over to give me a peck on the cheek and said a gracious "Thank You". Your energy was dazzling. Your aura must have filled the lobby. I will never forget your humility, your joy, and your smile, and I will relive the memories of that night each time I play your cd's. You are a gift, and I wish you and your family well in these and the coming days. Your music will make these footsteps forward, a little brighter.

Sincerely,

Small memory.   I was just 20 and I was on R & R in Bangkok in 1968.  I went into a small sandwich/pizza type place that had a jukebox.  The jukebox had a large video screen.  On it was playing the first “music video” I had ever seen in my life,

“The Night has a Thousand Eyes” , with Bobby and Friends Riding Motorcycles (at night of course) and singing the song.  Wondering if Bobby has a copy of that video or if he remembers it.

Hello Bobby Vee and family.  This is just an honor to be able to e-mail you.  I am sorry to say that even though I have been a fan of yours since the early 60s.  I have loved your music since the very beginning. The songs are simple with words that flow easily for those of us who like to sing along and with a nice harmony.  No wonder they did so well on the charts, other people obviously felt the same way.  I guess "Take Good Care of My Baby" is my favorite although "Come Back When You Grow Up" I right up there too except it’s one that we don't get to hear as much on the radio anymore.  "Please Don't Ask About Barbara" certainly brings back some memories for me, although not necessarily pleasant ones but special ones of days long gone by.  At the time that song was released i was all of about 15 years old and I had a mad crush on a cute little girl named {you guessed it} Barbara.  Unfortunately Barbara did not feel the same way about me.  Well that made me very sad so I bought that record and played it all the time when I was alone in my room.  I guess I did not want to play it when my family was around because I did not want them to know what a failure I was at love.  Well I eventually got over it and she went her way and I went mine and eventually find that certain someone who felt the same way.  I guess with all the medical issues that you are not touring right know.  Let me just say you and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers.  I can imagine how you felt getting a diagnosis like that. It was not that long ago that I got diagnosed with MS.  At first I was dealing with it well but now it seems like I am starting to lose the battles more days than winning.  It is a very peculiar disease misunderstood by both those of us that have it and those who don't.  I guess the one thing that helps me out, is knowing that at this point I am fortunate because there are many victims of it who are much worse than I am. Well it sure seems you and your wife have a good support group around you and there are a lot of people around you who can love, pray and care for you. You know family is something that many people including myself take for granted until they do not have any. I know that it sometimes seems that prayers do not work, but I know this they sure do no harm so i never turn them down. I can use all anybody sends on my behalf.

It must make you feel really good to think about the many millions and millions of people who you brought just a little piece of joy to every time they hear your music. That is a pretty neat thing to keep in your mind for those days when things are not going the way you want them to. 50+ years is a big number but that pales when you think of those fans experiencing your sounds over and over again. Creating that much happiness in a tough world that we live in is a really special achievement. Thank you Bobby Vee for the special memories may you continue to make many more.

Sincerely,
Don M. Rae

I tell the story over and over...
It was 1976 on a trip to Las Vegas. Bobby Vee was playing at the old Thunderbird Hotel and Casino in the Dick Clark "Oldies But Goodies" show, along with Gary US Bonds and the Shirelles. I went to the concert alone since I loved the songs of the 50s and 60s and had started collected the 45's.  I tipped large enough to get to sit right up front at the show. Bobby Vee came on and I sang along with all of his songs.

I can still remember the 1 piece bell-bottomed polyester turquoise outfit I wore. I was 22 years old.  Bobby commented how it was that I knew all his songs since I was too young.  I told him I had all of his 45's and knew them all.  He pulled me on stage and I sang back-up to "Take Good Care of My Baby".  After I sat back down, the lights went out, he kneeled down and he sang "Come Back When You Grow Up Girl". What fun that was - what a memory - I'll never forget. After the show, I asked a security guard if I could meet Bobby Vee. He took me back stage, I got to speak briefly with him. He was so nice and humble. I told him I was a UCLA student and he told me that he and his family lived in Westwood. Thank You Bobby for such a great memory. Of course, I'm 58 now, but it seems just like yesterday.

I was able to see another one of your concerts some years later when you played at the Knott's Berry Farm outdoor arena. The show was great then too.

Wishing you and your wonderful family well.

After seeing Bob Greene's article, I read your letter announcing your health concerns, and watched the video on your site.  I met Karen at a workshop in the early 80's, and  I am happy to see her looking as beautiful as ever.  I don't expect her to remember me, but she was lovely, and I have thought of her from time to time.  What a beautiful family you have.  It seems there is a lot of strength there.  My best to all of you.  And thanks for the music.

Sincerely,
Cindy Ray

I''d like to thank Gina from Germany for the tip on the Myron Lee and the Caddies video on YouTube.  So, so interesting.  I loved seeing Karen in her little swim cap.  Awww, what a cutie!  That was so much fun seeing Bobby and Karen at the pool and on the fishing boat.  Hard to believe all that time has gone by.  But some things never change - Bobby is still the best singer ever and Karen is still a cutie.  Haven't heard any updates on her lately.  Hope her recovery is continuing to go well.
Still in our prayers,

Bob and Kathy Caliaro

MR ROUGH RIDER
ROCK ON, MR VEE!!

Who I am, well I am a teen idol from the 60’s, ya, Remember Me Huh! At times they call me Bob, Bobby, Robert Thomas Velline, or just say hey friend. Some fans remember me by my first song, Suzie Baby, but the other people say Well All Right, You Won’t Forget me, Go On, Little Flame, cause I am just Walking With My Angel.

Yes it’s Bobby’s Tomorrow with all the Beautiful People that you have made very dear friends with over all, I mean all these years!!
Oh what ever happened to Peggy Sue? I guess one of the crickets would know, maybe she did get married, really not too sure and what do you Think About That!!! Well I know there is a song called Buddy’s Song if this could be cut to a shorter version then I’d guess we could call it your song, my good friend, ya Bobby’s Song!!

I’m busy looking at a lot of your song titles here. Just remember I heard someone say it was Linda Lu before Peggy Sue, not really sure on this either who knows, maybe it really was Barbara!

Did you ever get a Letter From Betty, or was it Peggy Sue, My Girl/Hey Girl or Maybe Just Today? Everyday they all were singing Early In The Morning ya to Maybe Baby, and you got it, Rave On!!!

You are and always will be a 60’s rock and roll living legend to me and all of your great fans, and another great song or two You Can Count On Me, When I’m Taking Care Of Your Baby, In My Baby Eyes, I’ve Been Sharing You so Forget Me Not!!!

There are so many pictures over the years from Maple Lake to the backstage at the Chester Fritz at the University Of North Dakota. Oh to meet your friends backstage was a big high in my life, from Del Shannon, Tommy Roe, Johnny Tilitson, Brian Hyland, and your big brother Bill, down at the Grand Forks Armory. He and I were standing in the doorway listening to Del sing Runaway! Oh what memories you gave all of us here in Grand Forks, ND

I know it’s hard to Make A Farwell, just remember my friend, The Night Has A Thousand Eyes, and they will always be Taking Care Of You “BOBBY”!!!

So many great times, so many great songs like with you and your sons, The Vees! Ya, This Love! Heard years ago there was a CD out there I believe called The Last or Great Acoustic Rhythm Guitars, Someday, I’d like to get one! Ya Nanci Griffith could easily be another crickett and too for Brian Hyland, and ok the great time I had at Perth, ND. Oh yes, that good ole flat bed trailer, ya started to rain oh yes cover the amps and the speakers, huh and let the Four Winds Blow! What a great evening! You know I’m not very fast in getting your birthday card to you but sooner or later I don’t forget you! Happy Birthday BOBBY (69)!!!! Thanks again my friend, I’m praying for you! You were my friend yesterday, today and will be tomorrow!! Thanks again for the Bobby Vee and the Shadows CD and Jeff, I still hope you have my ole 1956 red sparkle Ludwig drums. “Thanks my friend, let’s go fishing with Old Hayes and his bamboo fishing pole!!!

Bobby, ROCK ON!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!

CRASH BOOM BANG!!
Your friend

Our prayers go out to you and your Family. You have a lot to deal with but know that you have millions of fans who love you and admire your family. Your family is an inspiration. We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to sail with you on a couple of cruises sponsored by Concerts at Sea. We had the pleasure of meeting you and conversing for awhile in 2000. A great cruise with some of the best makers of rock and roll music ever. We remember Tommy and his base. April was concerned about Tommy when his head really got to rockn and rollin. She was afraid he might damage his neck. A wonderful, entertaining time it was. What a gentle and caring person you are, and so is your family. Our best wishes to you, Karen and the family.

Maybe this can help.  BMI lists twelve songs with the title "Mr. and Mrs."  The writers are:

1. Robin D H Williamson;
2. Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent;
3. Harold E Pietsch;
4. Anna Staunton and Robert G Walker;
5. Tony Cole and Francisco Jean Lopez;
6. Francisco Jean Lopez (Hmmm);
7. D B Ray and John T Williams;
8. Peylia Young;
9. Andy Blythe and Jack Hudson;
10. Emily D Cook and David M Klotz;
11. David Michael Sherman;
12. Cary B McDonald.

Perhaps someone will recognize a name in that list.  Thank you for looking into this for me.
